Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common nerve condition that we treat in our Northglenn chiropractic clinic. It occurs in many different chiropractic patients due to various reasons but is most commonly seen in people with repetitive motion activities at work. Manual labor workers and those sitting at desks working at computers are common patients we provide pain relief treatment for but it can happen to anyone. It is important to have a correct diagnosis because many different conditions are similar and can mimic carpal tunnel syndrome. Our chiropractor, Dr. Russ Birdsall, has the specialized expertise and background to properly diagnose this condition and apply the appropriate non-invasive treatment and we see patients from all across the Denver metro, including Thornton, Westminster, and Arvada areas.
WHAT IS CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME?
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the impingement of the median nerve when impacted through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. Many things cause narrowing of this tunnel and our non-invasive treatment protocols are directed at relieving that pressure and opening up the carpal tunnel. The median nerve controls the feeling and movement of the thumb and the first three digits of the hands, which is commonly where the symptoms are presenting. Our patients often experience pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness when coming into our chiropractic clinic but other symptoms may be present depending on the person.
WHAT CAN CAUSE THIS CONDITION?
• Underlying health problems (Diabetes, Thyroid Problems, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Previous Trauma or Fractures, and more)
• Repetitive motions of the wrist
• Trauma or fractures near the wrist
• Idiopathic (Meaning that the pain occurs for no distinct reason)
WHAT TREATMENT IS AVAILABLE FOR CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME?
Many of our chiropractic patients suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome have sought relief elsewhere before coming to our clinic. Common treatment methods including splinting, activity modification to remove repetitive motions, prescription or over-the-counter medications to slow down inflammation, or possibly surgery. We often see many people who are not satisfied with splinting and activity modification because many times it is not possible with the types of work people perform.
Our chiropractor specializes in hands and feet and we use a variety of methods to open up the carpal tunnel and remove the pressure on the median nerve. This may include chiropractic adjustments of the wrist or forearm, soft tissue therapy, and stretching and strengthening exercises to prevent the condition from reoccurring in the future. We have fantastic results with our patients and our goal is to relieve this pain condition so that our patients can resume their work and home lives without the worry of wrist pain, weakness, tingling, and other symptoms that may be occurring. We are conveniently located in Northglenn near Thornton, Westminster, and Denver.
